LEA was retained to conduct a Noise Impact Study in support of a residential development at 968 O’Connor Drive in the City of Toronto. The objective of this assessment was to evaluate the potential noise impacts due to O’Connor Drive vehicular traffic and the nearby Shred-it facility. Road noise levels were calculated using the method outlined in the Ontario Ministry of the Environment document “ORNAMENT – Ontario Road Noise Analysis Method for Environment and Transportation” October 1989, and the MOE “STAMSON” Computer Program for Road and Rail Traffic Noise Assessment.
The stationary impacts of the Shred-it facility were determined through on-site measurements and computer modelling using the Cadna/A software package.
The project led to various recommendations to mitigate O’Connor Drive noise, which included upgraded window glazing for windows with exposure to O’Connor Drive, and the requirement of a central air conditioning system to allow residents to close windows to minimize indoor noise levels. The study further concluded that noise emanating from the nearby Shred-it Facility would not constrain the implementation of this residential development.
