Senior Project / Financial Accountant

OVERVIEW 

LEA Consulting Ltd., an employee owned company, is a well-established professional services company comprised of engineers and planners providing consulting services for the planning, design, and construction administration of transportation infrastructure (primarily roads, highways, bridges, and transit systems) and buildings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Accounting Duties

To take up approximately 40% of your time (on average)

  • You will be assigned a handful of your own project managers as well as projects that the Controller I feel are complex and/or risky projects from an accounting perspective
  • Standard project accounting duties, including preparing reports and invoices, monitoring project status, ensuring project budgets are accurate and updated, communicating financial health to PMs and Controller.

2. Project Accounting Supervisor

To take up approximately 40% of your time (on average)

  • Providing guidance and ensuring other Project Manger work follows best practices
  • Communicating with and reviewing Estimated Cost to Complete analyses, provisions and revenue recognition recommendations prepared by others on the team
  • Developing standard reports to aid PMs in their assessment of project financial health and the planning/ management of projects
  • Informal education of PMs on Vision and how they can use/interpret financial information available in the System
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of project controls to aid in financial risk management objectives

3. Financial Accounting

To take up approximately 20% of your time

  • Various GL reconciliations as required
  • Striving to ensure books and records are “auditable” within 10 business days notice
  • Assisting with year end financial statement audit
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements (as required) 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideally, we are looking for individuals with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA);- a bonus
  • Full cycle accounting experience
  • Related Post-Secondary education;
  • 3+ years of construction accounting experience; project based accounting in a related field – construction, architecture, engineering
  • Demonstrated computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills would be a strong asset;
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems, specifically related to project costing. – Experience working with Deltek Vision preferred
  • Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high pressure work environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency by demonstrating the ability to shift priorities to accomplish objectives.
  • Effectively manage time to keep commitments to both internal and external clients.
