From June 18th to June 20th 2017, LEA team member Kelsey Waugh took part in the excite “Cities of Tomorrow Conference” in Calgary, Alberta. The conference brought together executive members of CITE, excite members, and early career professionals to collaborate and share knowledge centered around the idea of “building a future city”.
The conference provided several interesting speaker sessions and panel discussions around city building, innovation and diversity. The conference attendees utilized all these concepts in an idea competition.
Teams chose a location to redesign in the community of Bridgeland after visiting the site, located just outside downtown Calgary. They then had two hours to develop a pitch for their idea. The competition was judged by representatives from CITE, Bridgeland Riverside Community Association, and the City of Calgary. Kelsey was a part of the winning team, whose idea was to redevelop a seniors’ home area to be more walkable, accessible and community based. Congratulations to all the participants!
